Sparta Bands has a long standing tradition of excellence beginning in 1927, consistently receiving Excellent and Superior ratings at MSBOA district and state festival, as well as consistently performing in MCBA State Finals each year. Sparta Bands is made up of our 6th, 7th, 8th, Marching, Jazz, and Symphonic Bands.

Meet the Directors

Samuel Beeson

Mr. Beeson joined Sparta Band in the Fall of 2024 after completing his Bachelor of Music Education degree from Western Michigan University with Magna Cum Laude honors. Mr. Beeson’s main instrument is Trumpet, with a specialization in Brass and Percussion.

Mr. Beeson has a wide range of performance experience, including Western Michigan University’s Bronco Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Symphony, Symphony Orchestra, and Lab Band. He has also performed with Kalamazoo Valley Concert Band, Hastings City Band, and Beer City Winds. Additionally, Mr. Beeson has a significant background in the marching arts, including performing with Legends Drum and Bugle Corps in 2019 and the Boston Crusaders in 2022 and 2023. He then went on to be a member of the Visual Staff for Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps in 2024.

In his free time, Mr. Beeson loves to go rock climbing, practice photography, baking, and practice composition and arranging music.

Kara Feldkamp

Ms. Feldkamp is beyond excited to start her time with the Sparta Band! As a new hire to the district, she will work closely with Mr. Beeson, enhancing the fun band environment and striving for student success in the program. Ms. Feldkamp is a recent graduate from Western Michigan University, with her degree in Music Education, achieving Magna Cum Laude status, and completed her student teaching at Reeths-Puffer Schools. Ms. Feldkamp’s main instrument is clarinet, with a specialization of woodwinds, percussion and color guard. 

Ms. Feldkamp has a vast array of performance and teaching experience, including the Western Michigan University Bronco Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony. She has performed in Integrity Winter Guard and Caledonia Winter Guard. She has been involved in several pit orchestras including Muskegon Civic Theater, Magnify Church, and Kent City High School. 

Ms. Feldkamp loves to craft, bike, practice her color guard skills, and go glamping with her friends and family in her free time.
